Congress recently enacted significant changes regarding the tax incentives for conservation easement donations. Some of these changes are effective immediately and are currently set to expire at the end of 2007, providing an important but potentially limited opportunity for landowners.
The Green River Valley Land Trust (GRVLT) assists landowning families in the conservation of agricultural, ranch and natural lands in order to sustain and protect open spaces, watersheds, wildlife habitat and other ecological values in Wyoming's Green River Valley located in Sublette County, both for today and generations to come.

Since 2000, we’ve worked with nearly 40 families to conserve nearly 20,000 acres in Sublette County. As an additional testament to the community’s commitment to conservation, more than a dozen landowners have approached us in the past year about their interest in working with us on purchased easement projects that could result in the conservation of approximately 25,000 additional acres.
Not a moment too soon. Pinedale is now the fastest growing town in the fastest growing county in Wyoming. Sublette County, with a population growth 2.5 times the state average, is first among Wyoming counties at risk of losing existing ranch land to residential development – as much as 336,000 acres by 2020. That’s more than half of all of the privately owned land in Sublette County (a total of 592,000 acres).
